I had a really fun day today. I met Laurel in Melbourne, and we went to the Victoria Market. I had delicious ripe plums and cherries from the fruit market, and we had yummy sandwiches too. We wandered around all these cool market stalls, where they had everything from Ninja Turtles dishware to fine leather coats to Australian diamond and opal jewelry. It was pretty cool just to look at the craftsmanship.
I realized I haven't posted a lot of pictures of scenery here. It just started pouring rain about 10 minutes ago, but until then, we've been in quite a drought. Still, it's better to see a little tropical green than the snowy white blah of Minnesota this time of year!
Here are some pictures of the school I'll be teachin in, Montmorency Secondary College. There are no student hallways inside the buildings, which form a loop around the central courtyards. Instead, they walk outside, have their lockers outside, and eat their lunches outside on the benches in the courtyard. There's a river running close to the school, too, but students don't go near that because of the Tiger Snakes.
I'm off to the countryside for the weekend, so I'll write more later. G'day!
Oh! Wait! Look what I found in the living room yesterday:
It's a Huntsman, a giant hairy spider. This one was about the size of my hand - tarantula size, but skinnier. Eew!
